How Babel Medical handles patient information — today in this demo, and in production.
This demo: nothing to breach
- Patient information is stored only in this browser — never saved on a server.
- No patient accounts, no tracking, no analytics.
- Abandoned forms erase themselves after 3 minutes; staff can wipe all demo data with one button.
- Free-text answers are machine-translated via an anonymous service — which is why the demo is labeled “not for real patient information.”
Production: the per-hospital architecture
One hospital, one locked room
Each hospital's data lives in its own isolated, encrypted database with its own encryption key. Staff accounts are bound to their hospital — a login from one organization physically cannot query another's records.
Business Associate Agreements (BAAs)
We sign a BAA with every hospital, and every vendor in our chain — cloud hosting and the medical-grade translation provider — operates under a signed BAA with us. The free translation service used in this demo never touches production patient data.
Encryption everywhere
All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS) and all stored data is encrypted at rest. Production runs on HIPAA-eligible cloud infrastructure.
Real access control
Individual staff logins with role-based permissions and multi-factor authentication — no shared PINs in production.
Full audit trail
Every view, export, and edit of a patient record is logged: who, what, when. Audit logs are available to your compliance team.
Minimal retention
Intake data auto-deletes on your schedule (e.g., 72 hours or on export to your EHR). We hold as little as possible, as briefly as possible — the less we store, the less there is to breach.
Your forms, our engine
Your intake form is digitized during onboarding — your questions and consent language, professionally translated into every supported language — with our safety layer (red-flag symptoms, pain scale, smart flags) always on. Form definitions map to the FHIR Questionnaire standard for clean EHR integration (Epic, Cerner).
